An experimental pier at Qingdao Science and Education Park of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has recently opened to the public in Guzhenkou, the center of Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA).

Combining aesthetic appeal with romantic ambience, the pier has quickly become a popular attraction, drawing internet celebrities and visitors.

The 500-meter-long pier is part of the large-scale Ocean Science Research Center project of the CAS. It extends into the sea and is divided into three levels, serving as a platform for both scientific research and a mesmerizing walkway for visitors. Designed to resemble a straight and sharp feather, the bridge points towards the stars and the vast ocean, seemingly offering a magical experience amidst various ocean elements.

Apart from its striking appearance, the pier also boasts impressive functionality. Its front section consists of a  a platform measuring 25 m long and 41 m wide, equipped with a 33-meter-high meteorological observation laboratory and a side water outlet for transporting seawater through pipelines for research purposes. In addition, the side of the pier can temporarily dock boats up to 7 meters long, facilitating the transportation of scientific equipment.

The project supports the national strategic mission of building a new focal point for marine economic development and creating a powerful maritime nation. Comprehensive restoration and management projects for the ancient port shoreline are well underway, promising a beautiful coastal experience for locals and tourists along the pier in the future.
