Qingdao WCNA receives honor for high quality development

Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA) ranked first among the 10 districts in Qingdao, according to the results of the comprehensive performance assessment for high-quality development in 2022, which was released by the Qingdao Comprehensive Assessment Committee on April 18.

In 2022, the area's gross domestic product (GDP) reached 469.2 billion yuan ($68 billion), and its total economic output ranked among the top three among 19 national new areas. In addition, foreign imports and exports amounted to 326.05 billion yuan, accounting for 35.8 percent of the city's total.

The new area has been promoting the transformation of old and new kinetic energy, building an industrial cluster and accelerating the development of the advanced manufacturing industry. It has also built high standard professional parks for emerging industries specializing in integrated circuits, new displays, green and low-carbon new materials and hydrogen energy.

The area introduced 320 projects worth over 100 million yuan in 2022, including 15 large projects worth over 5 billion yuan, and 20 Fortune Global 500 projects. It also promoted the integration of industries and talents, pioneering the construction of international talent communities in the province.

In addition, the new area has been devoted to improving people's wellbeing. It created more than 80,000 new jobs, built 21 schools and kindergartens. To date, a total of 160 urban renewal projects with a total investment of 145.4 billion yuan are in full swing, such as Metro Line 6 and the area's second underwater tunnel.
