Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA) has developed an integrated development model for culture and tourism industries, strived to be a national demonstration area for cultural tourism during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), accelerated the construction of key projects and stimulated new consumption scenarios.
Recently, the area was listed among the 2022 Advanced Counties for Culture and Tourism Industries in Shandong during the 2023 Shandong Provincial Tourism Development Conference. It is the area in Qingdao to win the honor.
Qingdao WCNA signed a strategic cooperation framework with the world's top tourism and vacation brand MAHA Group to promote marine tourism, launch cultural tourism projects and build tourist spots featuring mountains, seas, islands and beaches.
The area is taking the lead in exploring a new model of island-based tourism. It is developing boutique sightseeing routes and a fan-shaped tourism circle integrating "mountains, seas and islands" by relying on resources from more than 10 surrounding islands, which include Zhucha Island and Lingshan Island. It is also home to the largest marine ranch complex in the country and 16 national-level marine ranch demonstration areas.
'Tourism plus' industries
Qingdao WCNA is advancing its all-for-one tourism strategy through the optimization of cultural tourism resources and has made remarkable achievements in industry integration and economic and social development.
The tourism market is steadily recovering and the expansion of the area's "tourism plus" plan is expected to boost local industries. For instance, the "West Coast 100 • 2023 Leisure Season" holds 100 activities in such fields as exhibitions, festivals, commerce and trade.
The area is building a batch of key projects to fuel the high-quality development of the cultural tourism industry. They include Tangdao Bay architecture art and virtual reality scenes, the oriental shell culture expo park and the west coast art bay. It has launched a boutique tourism route that passes through Mingyue Seaweed World, Oriental Movie Metropolis Industrial Park and Golden Beach Beer City.
