Poli town in Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA) has been working hard to promote its local culture by holding cultural events and establishing cultural centers.

After the closing of the Poli Bazaar, which triggered discussions on the internet during the Spring Festival holiday, a cooking contest was held on Feb 19, which attracted crowds of foodies.

At the contest, traditional dance and opera performances were presented, and a total of 114 local specialties competed with each other for the top prize.

According to Zhou Yanmo, the person in charge of the contest, the event helped with the communication among local residents and served as a platform to promote delicious dishes.

To showcase its handicrafts, which are listed as intangible cultural heritages in China, Poli town erected a cultural center. Every day, groups of people come to the center to have a glimpse of the town's marvelous handicraft culture.

On top of that, there is also a folk culture museum in the town. At the museum, more than 2,000 exhibits are being showcased. The locals of Qingdao particularly like a large sculpture depicting legends from the town and a beautiful wheat straw painting that brings familiar images to life.
