Sino-German Eco-park reduces carbon emissions

chinadaily.com.cn| Updated: February 20, 2023

Sino-German Eco-park, which is located in Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA), boats buildings equipped with green energy producing devices such as solar panels. Thanks to cutting-edge technologies, the park currently operates in a low-carbon mode.

According to Wang Baoqi, deputy-minister of the park's ecological planning and construction department, the park has cooperated with an enterprise that specializes in photovoltaic field to meet the high demand for new energy, and presently, the park is leading the way in slashing the gross domestic product (GDP) energy intensity and carbon emission intensity.

Another marvelous thing about the park is its use of passive house technology. Derived from Germany, passive house is a technology that can reduce buildings' environmental footprint.

Up to now, there are more than 800,000 square meters of buildings employing passive house technology at the park, which have helped reduce carbon emissions dramatically.

For example, the park's passive house technology experience center saves 1.3 million kilowatts of electricity and 664 metric tons of carbon emissions every year.

With all the efforts it has made in making the city greener and more livable, the park's green development mode is widely recognized by governments in China and international organizations, such as the Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40).
