Recently, the evaluation of marine ecological protection and restoration projects was closed. Among the 28 projects, Lingshan Island marine ecological protection and restoration project emerged victorious, and was awarded strong financial support from the Ministry of Finance.
Lingshan Island is the island with the highest elevation in North China, and sits on the three major migratory bird routes. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful islands in Shangdong, the island is also rich in geological culture.
Boasting a forest coverage rate of more than 80 percent, it is home to six types of complex landforms and 423 species of plants, which makes it significant for ecological protection.
The project aims to restore the island’s ecology and reduce the impact of natural disasters. A total of six programs are expected to be carried out, including the protection of birds and wild animals, the restoration of coastlines and eliminating pollution.
The project is scheduled to be completed in a two-year period, with a 515 million yuan ($76.35 million) budget. After completion, 16.07 hectares of newly planted vegetation is expected to be planted on the island, as well as the expansion of the waste water treatment plant to ensure that pollutants are properly disposed.
