Qingdao WCNA builds strong cultural tourism industry

Wang Qingyuan, head of Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA) in East China's Shandong province, recently talked about the development of cultural tourism industry in Qingdao WCNA during an interview with a journalist.

As the 9th national level new area in China, Qingdao WCNA boasts stunning natural scenery and a rich culture. The place is home to four mountains and nine gulfs. It is also known for Lingshan Island, the highest island in North China, as well as Golden Beach, which is hailed as "the first beach in Asia".

Qingdao WCNA has strived to promote its international image as a film, music, beer and exhibition city. In 2021, the area received a total of 22.47 million visitors from home and abroad, an increase of 31.6 percent year-on-year, and the added value created by the tourist industry accounted for more than 11 percent of the regional gross domestic product.

According to Wang, Qingdao WCNA is putting a lot of focus on the development of new formats of cultural events in the cultural tourism industry. At the same time, the area has introduced 50 key cultural projects with a total investment of more than 70 billion yuan (about $10 billion).

In the future, Qingdao WCNA will utilize its abundance of natural resources, promote traditional culture and implement new technologies to further develop the cultural tourism industry in the district, Wang added.
