The annual evaluation of the comprehensive performance of high-quality development of 10 districts and county-level cities in Qingdao city, East China's Shandong province in 2021 ranked Qingdao West Coast New Area (WCNA) first.
According to the results released on April 23, Qingdao WCNA also leads in attracting investment and talent, rural vitalization, reform and innovation, and building a civilized model.
The economic indicators of Qingdao WCNA reached new highs in 2021. Its GDP increased by 10.3 percent year-on-year to 436.85 billion yuan ($68.88 billion), and accounted for 30.9 percent of the city's total, making it the first in Qingdao to surpass the 400 billion yuan mark. The figure also put Qingdao WCNA among the top three of the 19 State-level new areas, first among 137 counties and districts in Shandong province and fourth among the top 100 districts in China.
Last year, Qingdao WCNA introduced 316 projects each worth more than 100 million yuan, with a total investment of 273.6 billion yuan. The new area had 1,641 projects with a total investment of 791.8 billion yuan under construction in 2021. Investments in high-tech industries in Qingdao WCNA increased by 36.9 percent year-on-year.
The business environment in Qingdao WCNA also continued to improve. The new area was awarded as excellent in the national business environment evaluation in 2021.
In addition, Qingdao WCNA has the highest ranking (15th) among the five districts in Shandong province that were included in the list of the top 100 innovative districts in 2022, which was released by CCID Consulting on April 6.
