Qingdao unveils Chinese New Year celebrations blending tradition, modernity
On Jan 26, Qingdao announced its 2026 Chinese New Year cultural series, designed as citywide celebrations for all ages.
Centered around five key themes — cultural ceremonies, folk customs, art performances, sports events, and public benefits — the organized events aim to offer daily activities across the city, blending Qingdao's coastal charm, historic architecture, urban energy, and local flavors into a vibrant festive experience.
Leveraging the charm of its natural landscape, the city will host unique activities along the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center to Fushan Bay area, including special "travel Qingdao on the sea" cruise routes and immersive maritime theater.
The second Qingdao Seagull Season, running through late March, features interactive parades and photo opportunities. Laoshan Mountain Scenic Area will also organize cultural tourism activities highlighting Taoist traditions and stunning winter scenery.
Cultural venues citywide, including libraries, museums, and art galleries, will remain open with themed exhibitions and hands-on workshops aplenty. Qingdao Museum and art galleries will launch special New Year displays, while libraries will hold reading salons and family programs.
In the historic old town and traditional neighborhoods, events like the 2026 Qingdao Turnip, Yuanxiao and Tangqiu Fair will offer nostalgic snacks, intangible cultural heritage markets, and immersive light projections, filling Qingdao's winter street with warm and lively scenes.
Aligned with the Happy Shopping in Qingdao consumption campaign, the city will issue Chinese New Year-themed vouchers covering dining, shopping, and automotive purchases, adding both economic vitality and festive cheer to the celebrations.
