Children in Qingdao enjoy Laba Festival with cultural fun

(chinadaily.com.cn) | 2026-01-26

This Laba Festival, a kindergarten in Jimo district, Qingdao, held a special event on "learning traditions, welcoming Laba," giving the kids a fun chance to explore and enjoy the charm of this Chinese festival.

With help from their teachers, the kids eagerly learned about Laba Festival customs and origins. They listened to stories about traditions like eating Laba porridge, making Laba garlic, and reciting ancient poems. During the hands-on session, the kids gathered around a big pot, carefully adding red beans, glutinous rice, peanuts, and more to cook Laba porridge together.

This type of experience let the kids feel the warmth of the festival and the deep heritage of Chinese culture. Events like this, which focus on cultural heritage, give young generations lively and meaningful opportunities to connect with tradition, helping cultural roots grow from an early age.
