OUC celebrates 100th anniversary
The Ocean University of China recently held a news conference at its Laoshan campus to mark its upcoming 100th anniversary on Oct 25, introducing preparations and key activities planned for the centennial celebration.
With the tagline "A Century of OUC: Advancing Maritime Prosperity for the Nation," a total of 134 activities in six major categories will be held during the celebration, including the release of a commemorative 100th-anniversary postage stamp, a grand ceremony, and cultural performances, highlighting cultural heritage, academic exchanges, and interactions between alumni.
Tian Hui, Party secretary of OUC, said at the conference that the university is leading the way in promoting high-level self-reliance and strength in marine science and technology.
OUC has fulfilled its role as a source of innovation and a key driving force in marine technology, building a strategic national scientific team in the marine field. It is also actively working to establish an integrated development system between universities and national laboratories with Chinese characteristics in the new era, Tian said.
At the conference, the second official announcement regarding the 100th anniversary of OUC was also released, along with the trailer for the university's original film, Chasing Waves, which is based on the renowned marine scientist and Chinese Academy of Sciences academician Wen Shengchang.
Founded in 1924, OUC is a comprehensive research university with a strong revolutionary heritage and a deep commitment to its blue maritime vision, as well as a key institution in national development. Over the past century, the university has stood alongside the nation, contributed to marine development, and integrated with the growth of Shandong province, playing a leading role in scientific and educational advancements and the development of a strong maritime nation.
