Xu Zhenchao was awarded the title of People's Craftsman on Sept 13 as a technician who made advancements in container handling technology at Qingdao Port of Shandong Port Group.

Guided by the principle of striving for excellence and vying for the top spot, Xu and his team have broken the world record for container handling an impressive nine times. His leadership has also spearheaded technological breakthroughs, notably pioneering the push for "fuel-to-electricity" for container tire cranes, which substantially reduced costs. Under his guidance, a cohort of advanced and exemplary individuals has emerged.

As per data released by Maersk, Qingdao Port has maintained its position at the forefront of Maersk Line's global berth efficiency for nine consecutive years. "This is the world's fastest terminal in terms of loading and unloading efficiency," said Xu.

Xu's unwavering spirit of craftsmanship commands respect. Focused on safety in the terminal, he has led his team in innovative technological endeavors. Developed under his stewardship, the container-shore intelligent operating system is a groundbreaking solution that mitigates the risks of human-machine crossovers during container bridgehead operations. Furthermore, his team crafted services for 48-hour berth forecasting and 24-hour confirmation that save shipping companies 12,600 metric tons of fuel annually. He and his team have solidified their status as yet another shining emblem of Qingdao Port.
