The 2024 Paris Paralympic Games opened at the Place de la Concorde in Paris on Aug 28. On the second day of the games, Qingdao's disabled athletes made an impressive showing.
As of Sept 1, Qingdao athletes had won one gold and one silver medal.
At 4:30 am on Aug 31 (Beijing time), in the women's K44 -57kg taekwondo final, Qingdao athlete Li Yujie took gold after defeating her opponent 11-0. This is the first Paralympic taekwondo gold medal won by a Chinese athlete, as well as the first gold medal won by an athlete from Shandong or Qingdao at this year's Paralympic Games.
Furthermore, Qingdao athlete Zhang Meng broke the Asian record in the women's SB9 100m breaststroke final, winning the silver medal with a time of 1 minute 15.05 seconds. This is Zhang's fourth Paralympic Games appearance after the London Paralympic Games and her second time on the Olympic podium.
