Jimo district in Qingdao, a coastal city in China's eastern Shandong province, has set an example in Qingdao's development as a park city.

The district became a model for the development of pocket parks during Qingdao's recent urban renewal and construction conference.

With a keen focus on improving the natural environment and elevating urban quality, Jimo district unveiled a comprehensive three-year plan to become a park city starting in 2022, emphasizing the development of parks and greenways.

This year marked the successful completion of 11 city park construction projects in the district, including the establishment of 10-kilometers greenways, 10 pocket parks, five tree-lined corridors, and the installation of 10 vertical greenery spots.

The 13,000-square-meter Dream Park, situated at the intersection of Huaishehe Road and Cuiying Road, stands out for its distinctive design and diversity of features.

Catering to the shared needs of schools, parents and residents, the park serves as a versatile pocket park for recreation and fitness.

In line with the principle of distinctiveness in park development, Jimo district has achieved the cost-effective rejuvenation of outdated green spaces utilizing existing slopes, waterways, and corners. Additionally, areas like city outskirts and abandoned plots have been transformed, enhancing the quality of life for residents.

In addition, the district government is also engaging residents for day-to-day maintenance and management of green spaces, providing robust support for the continuous development of the park city.
