Four districts in Qingdao, namely Huangdao, Chengyang, Jimo and Laoshan, have been included among China's top 100 districts in terms of industrial development in 2022.

Jiaozhou and Pingdu, two county-level cities in Qingdao, have also been included among China's top 100 counties in terms of industrial development this year.

The lists were recently released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) in the China County Industrial Economic Development Report (2022).

Developing county economy is an important way to realize the overall development of urban and rural areas, narrow regional gaps, and increase people's prosperity, say industry experts.

In recent years, driven by new industrialization and new urbanization, county industries in China have made great progress, accounting for half of the national industrial output value. A large number of strong industrial counties have emerged, contributing important strength to the smooth operation and high-quality development of social and economic advancement.

Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, Jiaozhou has developed a private export-oriented economy, invigorated the regional economy and promoted the transformation and upgrading of local industries.

In 2021, there were 721 industrial enterprises above designated size in Jiaozhou, and the growth rate of industrial added value was as high as 19.5 percent, 11.4 percentage points higher than that of Qingdao.

As the largest county-level city in Shandong province, Pingdu is a well-known agricultural region boasting a strong foundation for industrial development. Its resources account for about 70 percent of Qingdao's total, and include more than 30 kinds of minerals.

In 2021, the added value of the secondary industry in Pingdu was 31.2 billion yuan ($4.48 billion), up by 13 percent over the previous year.
