Qingdao witnesses consumption boom during May Day holiday

The eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province saw a consumption boom during the May Day holiday thanks to the local government's efforts in boosting domestic demand, unleashing the potential of domestic demand and encouraging consumer spending, local media reported.

During the holiday, the city's 10 key trade enterprises achieved total sales revenue of 490 million yuan ($73.4 million), a year-on-year increase of 9.6 percent. In addition, the city's 20 key catering enterprises achieved a turnover of 43 million yuan, an increase of more than 20 percent compared with the pre-holiday period.

Coupons for various products including digital home appliances, general merchandise, clothing, food and poverty alleviation products were issued in Qingdao to stimulate holiday consumption.

Various online and offline promotions were also held across the city to cater to residents' growing consumption demands during the holiday.
