The Qingdao cross-border e-commerce pilot zone performed well in the Ministry of Commerce's assessment of cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones for 2021.

There were four levels in the evaluation. In the first level, there were 10 cross-border e-commerce pilot zones identified, including the one in Qingdao.

The Ministry of Commerce completed a thorough inspection and evaluation of the first five batches of 105 comprehensive pilot zones for cross-border e-commerce in October 2021.

Basic information, policies and measures, cross-border e-commerce import and export, overseas warehouse development, and industrial park construction were among the seven categories and more than 40 specific indicators were included in the assessment index system.

As the province's main front for cross-border e-commerce development, the Qingdao cross-border e-commerce pilot zone has been stepping up efforts to promote institutional, management, and model innovation, and has taken the lead in achieving full coverage of six cross-border e-commerce regulatory models in North China.

In 2021, Qingdao's cross-border e-commerce import and export volume increased by over fivefold to 30 billion yuan ($4.72 billion).

Cross-border e-commerce, according to Qingdao officials, has become a major tool for reforming and improving the city's traditional sectors, as well as nurturing new competitive advantages in international trade.
