Fashion, tech drive urban development

By YUAN SHENGGAO | (China Daily) | 2021-12-28

On the evening of Dec 11, Qingdao ushered in a new wave of cold weather. However, at the intersection of Daxue and Yushan roads-a popular sightseeing destination in the city, a group of visitors were gathering, eagerly awaiting a fashion show.

Following the dynamic rhythm of the music, the models walked along the runway. The boughs of beautifully decorated ancient trees hung overhead, and beneath their feet were fallen leaves.

The diverse outfits of the models were in eye-catching contrast with the deep crimson wall beside them. The fashion show was a testament to the effectiveness of the technology and fashion fusing successfully.

The show contained new traditional Chinese styles containing rich classical elements from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing dynasties (1644-1911). There were exotic styles without limitation, craft embroidery, original denim fabrics and dresses both classic and elegant.

Some clothes were inspired by natural elements. The clothing materials were made using new types of fabric and processing methods such as water-free printing and dyeing technology.

"It's totally new to me. I have never witnessed such things before!" "I can't expect to see such a cool stage in Qingdao outside," the visitors said.

This is not the first time for Qingdao to hold such programs. Last year, Qingdao Innovation Festival "lit up" the city through a customized laser show, and blanketed Qingdao with strikingly colored lights and attracted a large number of residents.

In June, the Rye Music Festival held in Qingdao became popular throughout the country, attracting about 50,000 music fans. On July 21, Qingdao held the second New Media Night fashion event. Nearly 100 internet celebrities were presented at the event.

Just a few days ago, the Microblog 2021 Super Celebrity Festival took place in Qingdao. Seven multichannel networks, or MCN, expressed their intentions of cooperation and signed contracts with Qingdao.

When technology and fashion work together to empower urban life, creativity and innovation will emerge. This is the original intention of this fashion show, said officials.

Nowadays, Qingdao is rolling out supporting policies to optimize the fashion industrial chain, creating a friendly environment for the development of the fashion industry. In this regard, more fashion-related businesses and young people can be attracted to the city, officials said.

Qingdao is also constantly seeking a new path of urban development consistent with its urban environment and matching its natural resources as a coastal city, using the advantages of its development to make the city more fashionable and unique, officials added.
