Length and connectivity of Qingdao's metro lines grow

(chinadaily.com.cn) | 2021-12-08

The coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province has since 2010 built six metro lines that span 246 kilometers, placing the city among China's top 10 in terms of the length of metro lines.

The daily passenger flow in Qingdao is currently in excess of 1.2 million, making it one of the cities with the fastest subway development in China in the past decade.

Qingdao will make more efforts to accelerate the construction of the city's subway network during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, officials said at a news conference on Dec 7.

The project to build seven new metro lines was approved this September. These lines will span a combined 139 kilometers and cost 100 billion yuan ($15.73 billion) to build.

The city has promoted the construction of a "metro+" comprehensive transportation system to improve the connectivity between metro lines and cars, buses and railways.

Authorities will also explore low-carbon approaches to constructing the city's subway network. A series of energy-saving technologies will be applied and the use of clean energy such as hydrogen power and photovoltaic power will be encouraged.
