Qingdao releases five-year plan on technological innovation

The government of Qingdao released a plan on the development of technological innovation for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period on Sept 7.

The plan proposes that by 2025, Qingdao should develop into an international innovative city.

The city's strategic scientific and technological capabilities will be strengthened, enterprises' technological innovation capabilities will be significantly improved, talent innovation vitality will be released, scientific and technological innovation systems and mechanisms will continue to be improved, the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem will be optimized, and technological innovation and industrial application in key areas should see more breakthroughs.

The city should be home to at least 8,000 high-tech enterprises. The output value of high-tech industries should account for 65 percent of the city's total industrial output above designated size.

It will focus on key areas such as marine medical and biological products, marine high-end equipment, and marine information, and promote the application of marine scientific research achievements in industrial growth.

It will mainly develop key industries such as the marine economy, smart home appliances, new-generation information technology, new energy vehicles, rail transportation equipment, and emerging industries such as aerospace, biomedicine, new energy, and new materials. It will also promote the integration of internet, big data, artificial intelligence, and real economy to make breakthroughs on core technologies.
