Qingdao's Huangdao district (West Coast New Area) took 4th place on the list, while the districts of Shinan, Chengyang, Jimo and Laoshan were ranked 63rd, 74th, 81st and 96th respectively.

The Qingdao West Coast New Area performed well. Over the past four years, its ranking has moved up a place every year, from 7th place in 2018 to 4th place in 2021. The area is also the only northern district that made the top 10.

The Qingdao West Coast New Area has in recent years been making steady progress in developing its economy and urban areas. In 2020, its GDP reached 372.17 billion yuan ($57.43 billion), accounting for 30 percent of Qingdao's total.

Since its establishment seven years ago, the West Coast New Area has been ranked among the top three State-level new zones. It is also ranked second and fifth among the top 100 national districts in terms of contribution to the overall growth of the city and high-quality development respectively.
