Xiang Zhiqiang, deputy director of the management committee of the China-SCO demonstration zone, made a special presentation to the attendees on the zone's industry development and platform advantages.

Xiang said that the SCO demonstration zone, with its rich resources, preferential policies, and sound industrial foundation, welcomes more domestic and Japanese entrepreneurs to invest there.

Masaru Igawahara, consul general of Japan in Qingdao, said that the zone, which is adjacent to Japan and South Korea in the east, enjoys obvious geographical advantages, as well as that it will bring in new opportunities for cooperation between Japan and China.

He expressed his hope that the zone will serve as a platform for more exchanges and communication between enterprises from both countries, as well as further promote in-depth economic and trade cooperation between Japan and China.

According to Qingdao officials, the China-SCO demonstration zone is designed to serve Qingdao's new position as a pivot connecting the East and West through its land-sea transport systems.

The Ministry of Commerce has listed four major tasks to build the demonstration zone: establishing a regional logistics center; building a modern trade center; promoting production capacity cooperation and constructing a center for two-way investment; as well as building a business, tourism, and cultural exchange center.
