(chinadaily.com.cn) | 2021-06-22

A New Year painting exhibition kicked off on June 6 at the Qingdao West Coast New Area Art Museum as part of the city's celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

More than 200 New Year and farmer paintings, created by artists from Qingdao, Yantai, Weifang, Weihai, and Rizhao, are on display.

The exhibits, covering many topics with a number of different techniques, depict the great achievements of the Party in each historical period, as well as the marine and agricultural culture of the Jiaodong area.

New Year painting is a traditional Chinese folk art with a long history. According to traditional Chinese customs, the paintings are usually placed on doors and walls during the Spring Festival to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck to the family.

The exhibition will run until June 26 in Qingdao.
