The Qingdao Andersen Paradise, the third Andersen theme park built in China after ones in Shanghai and Yancheng in Jiangsu province, opened to the public on May 28.

Located at No 518 Shanghai Road, Pingdu city, Qingdao, the Andersen theme park has attracted nearly 3 billion yuan ($471.2 million) in investment.

Covering a total area of 23.33 hectares, it features a number of works from the Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen, such as The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, and Thumbelina.

Apart from recreational facilities, the theme park also has an Andersen art gallery, a themed hotel, a shopping center, and restaurants.

The new theme park mainly targets children aged between 3 and 14, with the purpose of bringing parents and children together, according to the theme park.

Visitors will be able to enjoy live performances telling the story of The Little Mermaid using various advanced technologies, making it like a real-world fairy tale.

Adults can also do go-karts, an escape room, outdoor barbecue, and a strop ropeway at the park.

The theme park will serve as a platform to demonstrate cooperation between China and Denmark in culture, education, commerce, and travel, officials said.
