A total of nine projects were signed during the 2020 Beijing-Qingdao Cross-Regional Industrial Cooperation Project Matchmaking Fair held on Aug 17 in Beijing.

This was the first on-site meeting of the year held by the Qingdao municipal government in Beijing to promote cooperation and attract investment.

According to Qingdao officials, the country is relieving Beijing of functions nonessential to its role as the capital and driving the coordinated development of surrounding regions, which offers great opportunities for Qingdao to attract relocation and investment opportunities from Beijing companies, as well as to boost its high-quality development.

"As the first and third largest cities in northern China, Beijing and Qingdao are the two pillars in the region's economy. The cooperation between the two cities will greatly promote the coordinated development of northern China," said Fang Xiao, director of the Beijing Cross-Regional Industrial Cooperation Center.

Fang added that Qingdao has huge development potential brought about by national strategies like the China-SCO demonstration zone and the Qingdao area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

"Qingdao's strong industrial base, beautiful ecological environment and excellent business environment are all attractive to Beijing enterprises. We will organize more project matchmaking activities, as well as encourage more Beijing companies and entrepreneurs to invest or start businesses in Qingdao," said Fang.
