Qingdao West Coast New Area has made great efforts to integrate health into all of its policies in recent years to improve the living environment for residents.

The district has integrated the construction of a demonstration zone for the prevention and control of chronic diseases with the building of a sanitary city, civilized city, and food safety city, aiming to make the ecological environment more livable and healthy.

As a result, the number of days with good air quality in the district has exceeded 270. The water quality compliance rate of the first-grade protection zone of rural and urban drinking water sources, as well as the qualified rate of the factory water and pipe network terminal water has reached 100 percent.

In accordance with the three-year action plan for rural revitalization, the district has established 672 self-service health monitoring stations in communities. Among them, the model of a smart health station piloted in the Haiqing Dalutuan Community was reported on and promoted by many mainstream media organizations, such as People's Daily.

It has actively carried out the Healthy Cell Program, focusing on the construction of healthy units, schools, hospitals, and communities. To date, it has built 490 healthy communities and 148 healthy units, schools, hotels, and canteens, while also making Party and government organs, hospitals, and schools smoke-free.

In terms of facilities construction, the district has coordinated multiple sectors and social forces to build a 70km coastal slow walking system along Blue Bay Road. It has also built seven fitness theme parks and four streets.

The district has made vigorous progress in building national fitness facilities. It has built a national fitness center covering 40,000 square meters and upgraded four existing sports venues.

It has set up 79 multi-functional sports venues, installed fitness equipment for all villages, and built "ten-minute fitness circle" in rural areas, as well as rural village fitness sites.

The district's per capita physical fitness area has reached 2.7 square meters, 15 years ahead of schedule of the physical fitness planning goal of "Healthy Shandong 2030."

The district has also actively carried out national fitness activities since it was established five years ago. It currently has more than 400 cultural tour teams and organizes more than 5,000 fitness events every year, with the number of participants reaching 300,000. The district was awarded the title of "National Mass Sports Advanced Unit."

In addition, the district has strived to develop a healthy nutrition campus. It has implemented an innovative mode of nutrition intervention for students.

Centering on the construction of standardized canteens, it has strictly implemented the management norms of school canteens and nutritious meals for students, featuring an electronic dietitian system, nutritionists, food education courses, nutrition intervention, and nutrition knowledge.

All of the 114 school canteens in the district have been built into standardized canteens. Two of them were rated as the National Nutrition and Health Demonstration School, gaining high praise from the Minister of Education Chen Baosheng.
