The No 8 People's Hospital of Qingdao was founded in 1951 and is a large comprehensive tertiary hospital integrating medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, prevention, health care, rehabilitation and first aid. It is one of the four medical groups in Qingdao - the north medical center. The hospital has three branches. 

The hospital's headquarters cover an area of 36,000 square meters, with a floor area of 69,000 square meters. It houses 1,035 patient beds. There are 45 clinical departments, 10 medical laboratories and more that 500 large and medium-sized pieces of medical equipment. 

The south branch covers an area of 15,000 square meters, and is mainly responsible for emergency treatment and training Weifang Medical University undergraduates. 

The east branch is planned to start construction in 2017, and construction is expected to take three years. It will be built into a large comprehensive tertiary hospital featuring oncology radiation therapy. It will cover an area of about 70,000 square meters, with a floor area of 160,000 square meters, and house 1,200 patient beds.
