In Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA), artificial intelligence is accelerating the deep integration of the digital and real economies, reshaping manufacturing through smarter, data-driven production systems and driving new industrial growth.
At Haier Marine Cold Chain Co Ltd, a flexible smart factory is transforming the production of customized commercial display cabinets. In a sector defined by small batches and diverse specifications, the factory uses interconnected equipment, five-axis robots and automated changeovers to enable real-time data collection, digital simulation and intelligent scheduling. AI-powered systems allow rapid response to order changes while improving efficiency, resource use and delivery performance.
AI transformation is also upgrading heavy industry. At Offshore Oil Engineering (Qingdao), robotic welding systems for TKY tubular joints are replacing manual work. With laser vision and intelligent algorithms, the system enables precise multi-angle welding of complex offshore structures. Recognized by the China Classification Society, it boosts efficiency by more than 70 percent while improving stability and safety.
Meanwhile, Sailun Group's Qingdao plant applies industrial internet and AI technologies across design, inspection and production scheduling, significantly enhancing manufacturing efficiency and quality control. Supported by strong policy guidance and digital infrastructure, Qingdao WCNA has built multiple lighthouse factories and industrial internet platforms, forming a rapidly expanding smart manufacturing ecosystem.
Officials said the region will continue advancing AI-driven industrial upgrading to strengthen its role as a national model for the integration of the digital and real economies.
