Brain-computer interface center opens in Shinan
A technology once seen only in science fiction is becoming accessible to the public in Shinan district, Qingdao, Shandong province, where a new experience center showcasing brain-computer interface (BCI) applications has begun trial operations.
Located in the city's historic Zhongshan Road, the space was developed by BrainCo Technology, a company specializing in non-invasive BCI technology. It aims to provide visitors and industry professionals with a closer look at emerging technologies through demonstrations, interactive experiences, and educational programs.
At the facility, visitors can wear a brainwave-monitoring device to use their brain signals to control equipment. For example, one demonstration lets users operate a robotic arm to identify, move, and pick up objects by altering their mental states. Another interactive activity enables participants to control a racing game through their attention levels, illustrating how neural signals can be converted into digital commands.
Covering more than 2,200 square meters, the space includes areas for science education, human-machine interaction, technology demonstrations, and research cooperation. It is designed to support youth education, technology competitions, industry training, and collaboration between universities and enterprises.
BCI technology is emerging as an important area in the development of artificial intelligence and human-machine interaction. With its growing AI industry and diverse applications in education, healthcare, and elder care, Shinan is exploring ways to both accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies and strengthen its innovation ecosystem.
