Shinan district in Qingdao, Shandong province, blended traditional culture, historic neighborhood experiences and new consumer offerings during the 2026 Dragon Boat Festival holiday.

Across local communities, residents joined activities such as making zongzi and mugwort crafts, reciting poetry and exploring intangible cultural heritage. Health talks, anti-fraud programs and family activities were also included, bringing the festive traditions even closer to everyday life and strengthening neighborhood ties.

In the historic urban area, Zhongshan Road and nearby courtyard neighborhoods hosted music performances, art markets and creative workshops. Chinese-style percussion, themed rap and interactive events gave traditional festival culture a more contemporary appeal while drawing more young visitors to the old city.

The holiday also boosted tourism and spending. The Zhongshan Road historic area recorded more than 900,000 visits, supported by cultural events, retail promotions and new commercial spaces.

Shangjieli MALL, which recently began trial operations, added fresh momentum to the area with its dining, retail and fashion businesses. Shinan also introduced ticket discounts and enhanced services at coastal attractions, observation sites and sailing facilities, further expanding its appeal as a vibrant urban destination.
