Spring economy blooms in Shinan
Updated: April 1, 2026
The arrival of spring has helped to boost the economy of Shinan district, Qingdao.
As plum blossoms reach their peak, visitors flock to Zhongshan Park, leading to an increase in accommodation bookings, restaurant spending, and sales of cultural and creative products across the city.

At Fushansuo Market, spring vegetables are drawing eager crowds with their freshness and low prices. In addition to common spring vegetables such as shepherd's purse, Chinese toon and Chinese chives, specialty wild vegetables like dandelion and Indian aster are winning customers over too.
Shopping centers are also capitalizing on the season. Jinmao Bay has launched a series of spring-themed promotional activities, delivering a notable uptick in both foot traffic and sales revenue since its rollout in March.
Strong policy support underpins the thriving spring economy. The government launched a five million yuan retail and dining voucher campaign on Feb 14, which had led to 25.47 million yuan ($3.70 million) in sales by March 19. A separate auto subsidy program, running from March 10 to 31, offers up to 4,000 yuan per vehicle, which has pushed auto retail sales past 100 million yuan.
Shinan is making the most of spring to increase consumption and boost the economy.
