Shinan district in Qingdao, Shandong province has made plans to help those experiencing difficulties and guarantee individual safety during the fight against the novel coronavirus pneumonia.
When met with the virus outbreak, the local civil affairs bureau quickly contacted over 2,000 households in the district and learned about their living conditions and specific needs.
Residents who needed them were provided with face masks and basic supplies. Local communities are also helping care for residents who cannot look after themselves while their family members are in quarantine.
Upon receiving a phone call from a senior couple living in Yancheng Road Community, local community worker Yi Ke promptly delivered them fresh vegetables and other daily necessities.
Shinan district also cares about the mental health of locals. It has set up a hotline and established a volunteer group, involving professional psychological consultants and experienced social workers, to provide residents with psychological counseling services through the hotline during this period.
Around 100 residents have made consultations through the hotline since it has launched. According to Chai Peipei, a member of the volunteer group, many of those who seek help are seniors who live alone. She always answers their questions with patience and does her best to alleviate any worries they may be having.
