Shandong University of Science and Technology held a high-quality development conference at its Qingdao campus on Sept 27, marking its 75th anniversary and setting out the priorities for its next stage of development.

Government officials, academicians, scholars, alumni and representatives from universities and businesses attended the event, which reviewed the university's development since its founding in 1951 and highlighted its recent achievements in education and research.

The university, which has campuses in Qingdao, Tai'an and Jinan, has continued to strengthen its engineering disciplines and research capacity. Three disciplines now rank among the top 0.1 percent globally in the Essential Science Indicators, while safety science and engineering was placed in the A category in China's latest national discipline assessment.

The conference also saw the launch of several academic and innovation platforms, including a national-level talent and academic innovation base, a technology business school and the Qingdao Innovation Port.

Cooperation agreements were signed with research institutes and companies in areas ranging from energy and geology to advanced manufacturing and the commercialization of research findings.

Looking ahead, the university plans to further strengthen its academic disciplines, talent development and scientific research while deepening collaboration with industry and research institutions.
