Qingdao is expanding its marine tourism offerings, from sightseeing cruises and island getaways to cruise tourism, as the coastal city moves to strengthen its appeal as an international seaside destination.

In the first eight months of this year, Qingdao's marine tourism joint operation network carried 3.52 million passengers, while revenue rose 17.37 percent year-on-year.

The network, led by Qingdao Tourism Group, brings together 92 operators, 11 piers and 235 vessels under unified management and service standards. Its Tour Around Jiaozhou Bay route was recently selected as one of China's quality waterway tourism routes for 2025, following the earlier inclusion of the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center-Zhanqiao Pier route.

The city is also broadening its coastal tourism portfolio. Lingshan Island has been incorporated into a regional marine tourism network, while other islands are introducing accommodation, dining, photography and water sports.

Cruise tourism is gaining momentum as well. In 2025, Qingdao handled 82,000 inbound and outbound cruise passenger trips, generating 260 million yuan ($36.6 million) in direct spending.

At the same time, the city is integrating its maritime heritage into new tourism experiences through immersive performances, archaeological sites and museums, while developing sailing, yachting and recreational fishing.

By connecting its coastline, islands and maritime culture, Qingdao is building a more diverse marine tourism industry and offering visitors new ways to experience the city from the sea.
