Qingdao has transformed urban park management by opening 76 shared green spaces covering 542 hectares, including 61 hectares of lawns. Locals and visitors are encouraged to enter and use these areas for activities like tent camping, leisure, and exercise, fostering seamless interaction with urban greenery.

To regulate these open spaces, Qingdao has implemented new guidelines, standardizing site selection, management measures, and operational principles. This shift turns green spaces from merely visual attractions into interactive, shared public resources.

Following the principles of full accessibility, categorized development, all-age friendliness, and co-governance, Qingdao tailors the expansion of shared green space types to local contexts. Popular parks such as Zhongshan Park, Fushan Forest Park, and Xiaomai Island Park have become key recreational destinations, each adapted to local conditions and public needs.

Refined urban management supports this initiative through site-specific strategies and rotational rest periods for lawns. Clear signage, improved facilities, cleanliness, and safety measures are in place, along with efforts to discourage uncivilized behavior. Qingdao also promotes cultural and educational activities in these spaces and encourages public participation in green space maintenance.

The opening and sharing of urban green spaces not only expands recreational areas for residents but also gives the city's ecological services and humanistic warmth. Qingdao will further advance the quality of shared green spaces through initiatives such as the exquisite shared green space selection campaign, ensuring these green areas become a more integral part of citizens' daily lives.
