Qingdao in Shandong province has rolled out plans to meet the practical demands emerging in the nation and to shoulder new responsibilities in the coming years, according to local officials.

The Qingdao West Coast New Area is now working on 181 tasks and 82 items that need to be refined. For instance, the area will promote 101 key marine projects worth 200 billion yuan ($27.58 billion) in total, and team up with the Center for Ocean Mega-Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on innovative marine projects.

The area's goals include increasing its annual gross marine product by more than 10 percent, which is expected to account for over 40 percent of the city's total, achieving more than 30 high-level innovations throughout the year, building industrial parks centered on integrated circuits, advanced polymers, metals, hydrogen energy and energy storage, as well as creating more than 80,000 jobs.

Jiaozhou, a county-level city belonging to Qingdao, is embarking on a mission to support the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

It is home to the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Area, China-SCO Institute of Economy and Trade, Qingdao SCO Pearl International Expo Center and a comprehensive service platform for the China-SCO local economic and trade cooperation.

The national-level Jiaodong Airport Demonstration Economic Zone is also located in the city, which is scheduled to promote the integration of industry, transportation and urban life, and high-end manufacturing.

Located at the south coast of Qingdao, Shinan district is paying attention to urban renewal projects. It is now implementing 22 such projects and preparing for 134 key projects.

It is also working on the renovation of old residential areas, construction of public parking lots and protection of historical sites.

Eyeing opportunities brought by the high-level opening-up, Shibei district has associated itself with the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement. It aims to stand out from its peers to build a RCEP Shandong economic and trade cooperation zone and gather more than 200 shipping, trade and financial enterprises in its cruise port area in the next three years.

Its local officials said that they strive to provide good services to the 199,000 market players in the district and create a heartwarming business environment for them.

Chengyang district has about 2,000 Japanese and South Korean enterprises, who favor the area's location and environment. Next, it will team up with enterprises from these countries to build several venues with foreign elements. Staff members of these enterprises are expected to take part in the planning, design, construction, investment promotion and operation of the venues.

In 2021, the total retail sales of social consumer goods of Chengyang increased by 20.8 percent, ranking first in the city.

According to local officials, the district will speed up the construction of a number of high-end consumer complexes integrating food, accommodation, travel, entertainment and education, and open a number of shops that will be sought after by trend seekers.

Laoshan district in Qingdao embraces a people-centered development philosophy. It focuses on hot issues that its residents care about, such as education, healthcare, employment and social security, and has launched a number of new policies accordingly.

According to local officials, residents can make great use of a hotline and government service platform to communicate with officials and solve their problems in a timely manner.
