The coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province has been boosting its international cooperation in agriculture, to ramp up the sector's development and promote rural revitalization, according to local authorities.

The Qingdao municipal bureau of agriculture and rural affairs launched a three-year action plan in March to establish an international business club for agriculture.

The business club aims to further modernize the agricultural sector, increase productivity, engage in international cooperation and foster agricultural industrial clusters worth more than 100 billion yuan ($15.26 billion).

According to local officials, the city will give more technological and financial support to rural areas, build national-level modern high-tech agriculture demonstration zones and create a platform for international agricultural cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The main area of the international business club on agriculture will be located in the Qingdao West Coast New Area. Phase one of the project will consist of an international agricultural exhibition and trade center, a major production plant, an international agricultural entrepreneurship and innovation exchange center and a service center.

Phase two will include an international agricultural expo park, an agricultural products processing center, an agricultural culture tourism section and other functional areas.

All the projects will be completed by the end of 2022, when they are projected to achieve annual output value of about 12 billion yuan and create about 30,000 jobs.

Officials said the business club will also host a series of high-level expos, forums and other activities to boost international cooperation and exchanges in agriculture.
