The Qingdao Land-Sea Linkage Conference was held on Aug 8 in Qingdao, Shandong province. 

It was attended by representatives of cities in the Yellow River basin and the Jiaodong Economic Circle. They discussed coordinating regional development and advancing land-sea intermodal transport.

The conference was supported by the Shandong Provincial Government and organized by the Qingdao municipal government, Shandong Provincial Department of Transport, the Stated-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Shandong, and the Shandong Port Group.

Representatives from port companies and the modern service industry also participated in the event in search of more cooperation opportunities.

Liu Jiayi, Party secretary of Shandong, said that the province has been ramping up efforts to lead ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

Liu said that Shandong is also working to build an excellent industrial ecology, promote economic upgrading, improve logistics systems, and strengthen land-sea transport to inject strong momentum into regional development.

Liu added that, with the support of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the Shandong comprehensive pilot zone for replacing old economic growth drivers with new ones and the China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization Demonstration Zone for Local Economic and Trade Cooperation, Shandong is improving its business environment, furthering opening up, and facilitating foreign trade.

Zou Zhiwu, vice-minister of the General Administration of Customs, said that in recent years, the total value of foreign trade in nine provinces alongside the Yellow River has been growing rapidly, demonstrating the great potential of regional export-oriented economic development.

Zou said that Shandong boasts a strong foundation in strategic emerging industries and the advanced manufacturing industry in the Yellow River basin, and it is the only coastal province in the Yellow River basin, playing an important role in coordinated regional development and land-sea transport systems.

He said that the General Administration of Customs will deepen reform and innovation, take full advantage of the policy and innovation strengths of comprehensive bonded areas, participate in the construction of world-class marine ports, promote the institutional innovation of pilot free trade zones, and do its best to serve local economic and social development in the Yellow River basin.

Wang Qingxian, Party chief of Qingdao, said that Qingdao has attached great importance to the environment amid its pursuit of high-quality development. The city will strengthen cooperation with counterparts in the Yellow River basin and promote coordinated development and common prosperity.
