Research team from Marine Science and Engineering College of Qingdao Agricultural University completed the genome sequencing and analysis of argopecten purpuratus on April 4.

The research team led by Wang Chunde, a marine science and engineering professor at the Qingdao Agricultural University, used combining second and third generation gene sequencing methods to complete the genome sequencing of argopecten purpuratus. This is the third scallop genome sequencing completed by humans after the sequences of scallop larva and chlamys farreri.

Wang introduced that the success genome sequencing of argopecten purpuratus laid the foundation for the analysis of argopecten purpuratus from the molecular level; for the determination mechanism and molecular breeding of important traits such as growth, stress resistance, fertility and lifespan of its hybrid scallops.
