Yantai, a beautiful port city in East China's Shandong province is accelerating construction of the Longkou-Qingdao highway which is expected to be completed this November, local government reported.

The Longkou-Qingdao highway runs from Longkou, a county-level city in Yantai, to Qingdao's Chengyang district through the cities of Zhaoyan, Laixi, Laiyang and Qingdao's Jimo.

In total, the highway will stretch 156.7 kilometers with the Qingdao section comprising 89.6 kilometers and the Yantai section 67.1 kilometers.

With an investment of 4.74 billion ($0.7 billion), the project includes 15 bridges, 21 interchanges, a parking lot and a service station. The speed of the Longkou-Qingdao highway will be set at 120 kilometers per hour.

After completion, the project will slash travel time between Yantai and Qingdao from 3.5 hours to two, further integrating cities in the Shandong Peninsula.

Additionally, it will optimize the road network in Shandong province, connect Yaitai and Qingdao city and further promote the development of the Shandong peninsula urban cluster.
