QINGDAO, Oct 2 (Xinhua) -- A museum on the theme of China's textile history has opened to the public in Qingdao, a port city in Shandong province.

Covering a total area of 170,000 square meters, the museum was built on the site of a Japanese textile mill which was established in 1934.

Zigzag-shaped workshop set up by a US company in 1933 is also displayed at the museum, said He Hongwei, deputy curator.

Visitors are able to learn the entire process of traditional textile production through interactive displays.

Modern fashions are also included.

Opening on Sept 29, the museum has offered free admission to visitors during the National Day holiday, starting Sunday.

Together with cities of Tianjin and Shanghai, Qingdao is one of the original cities of China's modern textile production.
