The World Brand Lab's annual list of the World's 500 Most Influential Brands for 2016 was released on Dec 26, with Apple, Google and Amazon in the first three positions.

Thirty-six Chinese brands made this year's list, among which were Haier Group and Tsingtao Beer from the eastern coastal city of Qingdao.

The 500 selected brands are from 28 different countries covering 50 different industries including food and beverage, automobiles and auto components, media, retail, energy and the internet. Those making the World's 500 Most Influential Brands list are selected on criteria based on market share, brand loyalty and global leadership.

The Haier Group Corporation is a Chinese multinational consumer electronics and home appliances company headquartered in Qingdao, Shandong province. Established in 1984, Haier is now the world's No 1 major appliance manufacturer.

Tsingtao Brewery, which produces the famous local beer, was originally founded by German and British settlers in August 1903. It is now one of the giants of the world's beer market. Nearly 3 percent of beer consumed worldwide is made by Tsingtao, making it the second most enjoyed beer in the world.

The World Brand Lab, established in New York City in 2003, is a leading independent consultancy of brand valuation and world marketing strategy.
