The coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province, was rated as one of China's most attractive cities for investment at the "China Dream" World Summit Forum and 2014 Global Times Billboard Award Ceremony on Jan 25.

The forum held in Beijing was sponsored by Global Times, a Chinese tabloid affiliated to the People's Daily. The criteria for the selections were based on reports from authoritative media and comments from economics professionals around the world. The method of selection was aimed at collecting different opinions from other countries regarding China's economic rise, as well as remarks on cities' development within international competition.

Sitting alongside Qingdao on the list were Suzhou, Xi'an, Ningbo, Chibi, Haimen, Yicheng and Pingtan.

In addition, Tsingtao Beer, a leading brand of Chinese beer based in Qingdao, won the award of 'most competitive enterprises' at the ceremony.
