The county of Laixi, on the outskirts of Qingdao, Shandong province, has staged a puppet show to coincide with the upcoming Spring Festival on Jan 23. It is considered to be a prelude of the preservation of this cultural heritage.

A staff member from the Qingdao Dahan Puppet Culture Broadcasting Co, who organized the puppet show, said that they will build a puppet art base and puppet cartoon base in 2015, in a bid to integrate puppet performance; puppet cartoon, film and television; and puppet art ware sales.

As a historic Chinese folk art, the Laixi puppet show is an intangible cultural heritage in the city of Qingdao. Jiang Yutao, now the general manger of the puppet company, was widely deemed to be the inheritor of this art form in 2012.
