Construction for a world-level culture and technological industry base broke ground in Shandong province’s Qingdao yesterday.

With a total area of 207 hectares, the Qingdao Huaqiang Culture and Technology Industry Base will become the Chinese equivalent of Disney, and a mainstay of the world’s popular culture and technology industries.

It will consist of several elements, including three huge hi-tech theme parks, 7 culture and technology industry bases, a large hi-tech theatre, a tourism business town, a 5-star hotel, and a Global Internet Data Center (IDC).

After its competition, the base will gather more than 5 thousand professionals from the animation industry, forming the country’s biggest team of animation creatives.

The base is predicted to have an annual output of 50 thousand minutes of pop culture multimedia such as animation, games, movies and television dramas, and more than 5 million tourists are expected to visit the base every year.
